Chemical Peels Q & A
What is a chemical peel?
A chemical peel performed by an aesthetic dermatologist involves applying a blend of chemicals to your face to encourage a lifting away of old, dull cells. The procedure reveals fresh new cells that are healthier, more radiant, and smoother in tone and texture.
At Marin Skin, you can benefit from a number of different types of chemical peels that vary in intensity and results.
What are the benefits of a chemical peel?
Chemical peels are a noninvasive solution to a number of skin concerns. They can help you achieve:
Skin rejuvenation
Healing from sun damage
Reduced lines and wrinkles
Evenly toned skin tone free of hyperpigmentation or melasma
Fading of acne scars or other scarring
The team at Marin Skin helps you determine if a chemical peel or another procedure is right for your goals.
What types of chemical peels are available?
At Marin Skin, every chemical peel is administered by a board-certified dermatologist. The types of peels that are offered include:
The Perfect Derma Peel™
This peel can treat aging skin, a dull complexion, and mild acne scars. It doesn’t require any preparation on your part but greatly improves skin tone and texture.
Superficial peel
The superficial peel offered at Marin Skin uses salicylic acid to address oily skin, acne, and acne scars. Your skin sees the most benefit after a series of three superficial peels.
Moderate peel
The moderate peel at Marin Skin uses trichloroacetic acid (TCA) to slough off deeper layers of skin than a superficial peel. This type of peel is most effective if you have small injury scars, notable acne scars, or hyperpigmentation.
What is the recovery process after a chemical peel?
Recovery from a chemical peel may take just a few days or last much longer, depending on the intensity of the peel and your skin’s reaction.
Superficial peels that brighten your complexion and reduce mild wrinkles and sun damage require minimal downtime. You can go back to work or other activities after the procedure but will have some redness and skin flaking.
Medium intensity peels do cause notable redness. Following treatment, you’ll look like you have a sunburn. You may also experience some swelling and skin flaking.
After any type of chemical peel, your skin is more sensitive to the sun. While you should always wear sun protection, be extra diligent in the weeks following a chemical peel.
